I couldn’t completely dismiss the gravity of my predicament, but I could give myself license to be hopeful. I wondered, ‘What might I be able to achieve?’ I decided that ambiguity provided opportunity. I reframed the uncertainty into thoughts that generated hope and focus. I developed and latched onto the idea that if every spinal cord injury is unique, so every recovery can be unique.
